PROJECT DETAILS
Watermiser were commissioned to design, manufacture and install a new GRP cooling tower complete with fan silencers and high level access platform, to replace the aging structural timber tower at the Invergordon Grain Distillery site.
Having previously installed galvanised and painted cooling towers, the engineers onsite had seen at first hand the problems that occur when using materials not suitable for the aggressive nature of cooling tower water treatment chemicals, and therefore liked the idea of using a GRP cooling tower that would be completely inert to any type of water treatment chemical they choose to use.
A site visit to the nearby Glenmorangie Distillery to see the existing Watermiser GRP cooling towers operate, convinced the engineering team at Whyte & MacKay that the Watermiser GRP cooling towers being offered were the best cooling towers for the job.

"We have a very close working relationship with Watermiser who have carried out numerous works at our Girvan site. They have a good working knowledge of our system, our site and our protocols which means they can work without constant supervision. Totally trustworthy and reliable, the Watermiser guys get on, get the work done and tidy up after themselves, with minimum fuss or disruption."

Nestle UK is a major player in Britain’s food industry, producing many high profile brands such as Kit Kat, Nescafe and Smarties, and exporting to over 50 countries worldwide. Watermiser has been working with the company for many years, carrying our works at several of their UK sites.
The existing cooling towers at Nestle’s Girvan site required new eliminators. Watermiser manufactured and installed two complete sets of eliminators, which would fit perfectly with the existing towers. We also carried out our own disinfections on the system to allow works to progress.

National Grid is an international electricity and gas company. One of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world, they play a key role in providing energy to millions of customers across the UK and the Northeast US. Watermiser has worked with National Grid for several years following our successful delivery of a multi-cell cooling tower at their Avonmouth facility.
National Grid commissioned Watermiser to replace their two existing dry air coolers at Avonmouth. The job involved the safe removal and disposal of the old towers, correctly sizing and installing two new units on new support frames, stainless steel pipework fabrication, installing a platform for the header tank and supplying a new electrics control panel.

Legal & General is a leading provider of risk, savings and investment management products in the UK. Established in 1836, they are responsible for investing £388 billion worldwide (2012). Watermiser had won the tender to supply their original cooling towers at their Surrey base 25 years ago.
Watermiser was appointed to replace Legal & General’s four existing cooling towers with modern equivalents which would fit perfectly into the roof enclosure. The job involved designing, manufacturing and installing four low noise, low height GRP cooling towers, complete with new pumps, RTDs and acoustic panels.
At the request of Legal and General, Watermiser in conjunction with the principal contractors Mace and Dornan air lifted the new cooling towers and various other ancillary equipment on to the main building roof via helicopter.

Watermiser first started working with Coca Cola in 1999, when we supplied replacement parts for cooling towers at their East Kilbride site. Since 2004 we have held the contract to inspect, clean and maintain all cooling towers at this site.
With the aim of reducing maintenance costs and improving efficiency at their East Kilbride site, Coca Cola commissioned Watermiser to replace their existing induced draught type cooling towers with new Watermiser GRP forced draught cooling towers. We provided total project management throughout the process, from safely removing the existing towers, to the design, manufacture and installation of the two new towers, complete with high level support steelwork and baseframes.
